ARTIST BIO: NANCY PFAU

Over six years ago, I embarked on a journey to rescue my passion for painting. After 45+ years of artistic abstinence, the artist inside has reemerged from tutored childhood days of oil painting. My portfolio includes over 500+ rather large works of art, painted with acrylic on canvas, and several have been incorporated with multimedia materials. Paintings span the gamut from roots of realism — landscapes and seascapes — to a more recent surge of everything abstract.

Initially I relied on my photography to serve as a subject source. Now emotions and feelings drives inspiration, and I rely on my conscious and subconscious to create arousing abstracts. Every painting I do starts with an idea that might be a good image to create, and from there takes its own course. It's a solitary endeavor to paint, or create. I always listen to music, which I choose carefully to enhance how I'm feeling. My whole self enters a sort of nirvana. My brain is released from stress; my hands, heart and soul are entangled, focused and synchronized with the medium. There are times when paint barely stains the canvas, and then there are others when I freely release emotion by throwing, squeezing, scraping or dripping the paint. I use sticks, brushes and my own hands to move the paint into a completed composition.

Painting is the vehicle that allows me to communicate my visual and emotional experiences into an abstract sense of place. By choosing and abstracting color, line and form, the final essence of emotional and physical connectivity to one another within each work is transported to and artistically recorded on the canvas. I love the magic of painting; it's like entering another reality without ever physically leaving your own...It defrags your body's hard drive — your mind. I am a cancer survivor of 16 years now -- everyday I wake, to see another day, is a gift that's what cancer has taught me. Cancer opened my eyes to strive to be a better person for myself and all around me. I paint because it is a gift from God that flows through me onto the canvas. My finished works of art are not sold but rather are used for non-profit foundation fund raising. I support: ClickIt4Life.net, Dallas, Texas, placing real faces and death dates in the public eye, encouraging safe driving practices for our young people; Komak Cares, Children's Cancer Association, VNAM FOUNDATION and UKANDU in Portland, Oregon; Ainsley’s Angels, Raleigh, NC; and NO KID HUNGRY, National USA.

In 2005 the day after Christmas Terri's son Jake was killed in a car accident. He was not wearing his seatbelt. It has been our mission to put the names and death dates of young people along highways to remind people that this can happen to you. To get the attention of young drivers, she along with the help of her staff, friends and people like you, place billboards along major highways.
